Welcome to the Latin website for the Somerset Hills School District (Bernardsville Middle School & Bernards High School) in Bernardsville, NJ.
This site is intended to augment Google Classroom and the Latin Class Sharp School pages with helpful information and some fun pictures and activities.

GREAT NEWS FOR THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR!
ALL LATIN STUDENTS IN THE SHSD WILL BE GIVEN A SUBSCRIPTION TO THE CAMBRIDGE LATIN COURSE ON-LINE!
Magistra Martin is very pleased to announce that the administration has once again approved the purchase of an online subscription to the Cambridge Latin Course for all SHSD Latin students for the 2018-2019 school year. When students return to school in September, Magistra Martin will issue them both a textbook and instructions (username and password) for how to log onto the textbook's online site which can be accessed by means of any wi-fi enabled device (computer, tablet and cell phone). 6th graders will get their codes when they are ready to begin the Cambridge Latin Course books sometime in March.
Benefits of this subscription include:
-
on-line textbook (with "click on the word" basic vocabulary information)
-
online vocabulary games for each stage in the textbook
-
on-line dictionary
-
on-line grammar and language practice
-
numerous online resources for research about Roman life
CLICK HERE to check out Stage 1. Each stage is similarly divided into the following categories:
-
"Webbook"
-
allows students to view their CLC textbook online
-
-
"The Stories"
-
allows students to work through translations of each story in the stage using on-line "Explore the Story" vocabulary tools
-
-
"Practicing the Language"
-
provides students with practice using the Latin language (vocabulary and grammar drills)
-
-
"Cultural Background"
-
provides literally hundreds of links to great information about Roman life taught in each stage
-
In the past, students who wished to make use of these online tools had to purchase their own subscription (approximately $15 per year), but this year the district is taking advantage of the much-discounted school rate and purchasing a site license to offer each student a subscription.
Magistra Martin is very excited about this purchase and is looking forward to using these tools in the classroom. Although students will be able to use any wi-fi enabled device to access these sites, Magistra will still require students to bring their actual textbooks to class with them daily.
