Cambridge Latin Course Online Activities
www.quizlet.com is a flash card creation site designed to help students learn vocabulary. Students can either use the card sets that Magistra Martin has created or create their own. In each card set the Latin word will appear on one side of the card and the English meaning will appear on the other side.
Quizlet is much more than just flash cards. Once a card set has been created, students can use the card set in several different ways (Flashcards, Learn, Speller, Test, Scatter and Space Race).
Quizlet also offers a great learning experience on mobile devices throught the Quizlet app. While the Quizlet app is a bit more limited, it is still a wonderful learning tool for students. There are three games that can be run on the Quizlet app: Cards, Learn, Match. Match is a fast paced game in which students try to match Latin words to their English meaning.
All Magistra Martin's students are required to set up a Quizlet account (using their school e-mail addresses) and join her Quizlet class. By doing so, students will have access to this wonderful learning tool and will always know what words are on each week's vocabulary list.
www.quia.com is another flash card creation site designed to promote vocabulary acquisition. Students may wish to uses the vocabulary games created by Magistra Martin (Flashcards, Matching, Concentration or Word Search).
The Latin textbook series used in the Somerset Hills School District is the Cambridge Latin Course (North American 4th Edition). This series has some wonderful online activities including those designed specifically to give students additional practice in using their Latin vocabulary. Not only are there tests for all of the stages (chapters) studied in the Somerset Hills School District, but the site offers an online dictionary and a on-line version containing each entire textbook. With the on-line dictionary, students who use this site can type in a few letters of the word that they do not know and the Latin word and its meaning will come to the screen immediately. Best of all, starting in September of 2016, all SHSD students using this textbook series will be given a subscription to these on line programs.

While some students learn vocabulary best by the old school method of creating and studying flash cards (Latin word on one side and the English meaning on the other side), many students find that using modern technology is best for them. Many students have found that the ease of access for internet learning sites helps them.
